End-of-Course Examination Program

End-of-Course Examination (EOCEP)

The End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) is a statewide assessment for gateway courses in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These exams are designed to:

  • Encourage instruction aligned with course standards

  • Promote student achievement

  • Measure students’ mastery of academic standards

The State Board of Education defines which courses are considered gateway courses. Currently, these include Algebra 1, Intermediate Algebra, Biology 1, English 2, and United States History and the Constitution (or courses with equivalent standards under different names).

EOCEP scores count for 20% of a student’s final grade in gateway courses.
